So... yesterday we were supposed to have a birthday party for Brayden and his cousin Colton. Brayden woke up with a fever, so we fed him and put him back down thinking that he would feel better when he woke up. Sadly, that was false hope.
He woke up still running a temperature of 102. So again we fed him, and he was tired so we put him back down to sleep. When he woke up from the second nap and was showing no signs of improvement we got worried. He had been tired and fussy all day long. These 2 things are very uncommon in Brayden.
We decided to take him to Urgent Care at about 7:30 last night. We got in right away and they took his temperature and checked him out. He had a temperature of 104.3! Holy Cow!! No wonder he was fussy. In order to get the temperature down, they gave him a dose of Tylenol and Motrin. They also said both ears were red, so he got antibiotics for ear infections.
We left Urgent Care feeling better in hopes that Brayden would soon feel better. My mom had come with us, so her and I took Brayden home while Nick went to get his prescription filled. On the way home, I turned around to check on Brayden and he looked really funny (not quite right). I didn't think much of it, because he had been sick all day. I turned around to look at him again and he was just staring into space. He wouldn't look at me when I called his name or tried to get his attention. I started shaking his leg and he still didn't move. His feet felt cold and his lips were starting to turn blue. We immediately pulled over and my mom pulled him out of the car seat. He still was unresponsive so we called 911. By the time someone got there, he had snapped out of it and was returning to normal. He had was it called a febrile seizure. It is caused when kids have a high fever and it is like any other seizure. It was so scary!
We took him home after we were sure he would be okay. He seemed to be better after some medicine and dinner, so we put him to bed. This morning he got up and is still not feeling the best. He is still running a high temperature. We decided not to fly home tonight because Brayden still seems pretty sick. Instead we will stay up here for 2 more days and go home on Wednesday night. Hopefully Brayden will be feeling much better by then. Sadly I have no pictures of this exciting event. I will have some up when he feels better though.
